A night of queer short films, conversation and connection - coming to a screen near you.

We’re excited to introduce In the Mix – our new touring short film night bringing together bold, brilliant stories from Northern filmmakers. Expect a curated programme of great short films, a filmmaker panel and Q&A, and an informal mixer to meet the people behind the films, connect with local creatives, and get In the Mix!

This programme’s focus is on queer stories - those that are funny, tender, messy, provocative, frightening and deeply human. From forbidden feelings and complicated families to toxic love, identity, desire and the unexpected places we find each other, these films put queer voices front and centre. We hope to see you on the road!

Before I Do 
Dir. Gitika Buttoo/2024/Comedy/Drama 
On the morning of her wedding, haunted by the call of her untamed desires, Mona grapples with the constraints of tradition and her own quest for identity. As the ceremony looms, Mona's encounters overbearing family, memories, and provocative messages that compel her to confront the true meaning of commitment.

Lonelier Than Love 
Dir. Em Gilbertson/2026/Drama 
When toxic love and drugs blur the lines of reality, Wolfy must fight to break the cycle of self- destruction before it swallows him whole. 
Nominee for Women X Film Festival 2026 Best Northern Short, Best Northern Writer (Felix Mufti), and Best Northern Producer (Lily Corke Butters).

Meat Raffle 
Dir. Stuart Armstrong/2025/Comedy/Drama 
Terrified he's turned his son queer, closeted dad Rich plots to rig his local pub’s Christmas turkey draw to prove himself as a real man. 
Won Best Northern Short at The Bay International Film Festival 2026; nominee for Best British Short at Bolton International Film Festival 2025 and Iris Prize 2025 Best British Short.

All the Lights Still Burning 
Dir. Dominic Leclerc/2023/Drama 
A classical violinist and a drug dealer connect in a queer love story set on the streets of Bradford. 
Featured at BFI London Film Festival 2023. 

In the Mix is presented by Film Hub North, supported by BFI NETWORK and National Lottery funding. Every film in this programme has been supported by the BFI NETWORK England Short Film Fund, which helps fund the production of standalone fiction shorts that showcase new perspectives and original storytelling.
