Set on the outskirts of Bradford, The Selfish Giant follows two rebellious young lads - Arbor and Swifty - and their involvement with a local scrap dealer. At first their earnings seem to roll in, but as jealousy and resentment begin to drive the boys apart, Arbor resorts to a desperate act of greed.

Clio Barnard’s first fiction feature as Writer-Director, following 2010’s experimental documentary, The Arbor, cemented the filmmaker’s place as one of the most exciting cinematic talents of her generation. Bold and thoroughly gripping, The Selfish Giant boasts breathtaking cinematography and astonishing performances from its two young leads.

This screening of The Selfish Giant will be preceded by Salt Water Town – a gripping short film about a father and son wrestling over the future of their failing caravan park on the Welsh coast. Salt Water Town is directed by HOME’s Filmmaker in Residence, Dan Thorburn.

This event is part of Rip It Up – a nationwide season celebrating the changing face of youth rebellion, culture and expression on screen in the UK. Supported by Film Hub North as part of the BFI Film Audience Network, made possible by the National Lottery.
