The marks we leave behind

This window installation by artist Belshah is a public artistic response to Artefacts of Interaction, a co-created exhibition at HOME during Recoverist Month 2025 that explored the tangled terrain where neurodivergence, substance use (prescribed or illicit), and artistic practice can intersect.

Since Artefacts of Interaction, Belshah has delivered two public facing workshops (one in September 2025 and the other during Dry January 2026) which built upon the methodology of co-production developed during the exhibition and this installation is the result of these two workshops.

Continuing this ethos of co-production, transforming marks, gestures and visual fragments into a digital composite capturing the accumulated interactions and creative encounters that emerge through making.

With over 30 members of public contributing to the work, this collective form of portraiture is foregrounded in lived experience.

Visible from the street, the work transforms the window into a public space for reflection, inviting passers-by to consider the marks we leave behind, the relationships we build and the ways creativity can connect communities through shared acts of making.
