The Philippines exists half a world away as an archipelago of over 7,000 islands. It is a vast distance that crosses time zones and hemispheres, yet the spirit of that tropical landscape has found a home right here in the UK. Just as Manchester is anchored by its northern identity, Filipino culture also carries its own unmistakable markers from the rich flavours of a home cooked adobo to the local warmth of being called ‘palangga’. Today that heritage is flourishing in neighbourhoods across the U.K.
This journey is brought to life by Voice ESEA, an educational non-profit that uncovers hidden British history through interactive exhibitions. SALO SALO: Come Together builds on a wider oral history project curated by our collective of Filipino creatives from across the UK. This includes textile artist Phoebe Singzon, whose expertise has shaped the visual and material focus of the exhibition.
This piece will be at HOME until September, before moving to London’s OXO Tower from 2nd–7th September 2026.
For this ECHO exhibition, Voice ESEA aims to uplift and educate about East and South East Asian voices. Our Thanks:
