This piece is an excerpt of a collaborative poem between Manchester City Poet Nóra Blascsók and Catalan poet Esteve Plantada specially commissioned for Festival of Libraries, an annual festival celebrating Greater Manchester’s world-class libraries by Manchester UNESCO City of Literature.

Barcelona is a sister City of Literature and is the guest city at Festival of Libraries 2026, as part of an ongoing literary partnership. This poem highlights the creative camaraderie between the two cities. There are many more events produced in partnership between the cities taking place in June across Greater Manchester.

The Manchester Multilingual City Poets write key poems throughout the year to creatively document the city’s calendar. This collaboration embodies the importance of connection and the natural world for all UNESCO Cities of Literature.

You can read the full poem and accompanying translations on our website.
