HOME Arches Seed Residencies
Calling all Theatre makers
HOME is inviting Greater Manchester-based artists and companies to apply for our Seed Commissions: three small grants designed to support research and development for new, original theatre work.
These seed commissions are not about delivering a finished production but rather about supporting a necessary research & development period to strengthen artistic and production enquiries.
A finished performance or production is not expected at this stage. However, supported artists will be asked to share what has been developed through the commission, for example through an informal sharing, table read or similar format.
Who can apply
Practicing artists based in Manchester and Greater Manchester developing new projects.
Artists must have already created and toured at least one theatrical production before applying to this opportunity.
At least 2 of the 3 seed commissions will be awarded to artists who identify as being under-represented in the arts, particularly those from the Global Majority, LGBTQIA+, d/Deaf or disabled and/or working class.
What the offer is
- £1,500 seed commission fee per project (3 seed commissions)
- Up to 2 weeks of rehearsal and making space in HOME Arches
- Technical support during the rehearsals
- Mentoring and support from HOME’s Artist Development Team
What we are looking for
- Small scale projects suitable for studio theatres.
- Ideas that demonstrate artistic quality, originality and potential.
- Projects that have already had an initial period of research (you should, at this stage, know who the creative team will be and your ambitions for the project).
- Contemporary stories and those that have the potential to open relevant conversations.
- Bilingual stories (BSL/BESEA stories).
- Family work (3+).
- Projects with a clear connection to Manchester, Greater Manchester, its communities or creative ecology, including ideas that could help build sustainable artistic relationships in the region.
